RESOLUTION NO. 75-62 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA OPPOSING PROPOSITION A AND SUPPORTING <br />PROPOSITION B IN THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION TO BE <br />CONDUCTED IN THE GARDEN GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL <br />DISTRICT AREA ON THE 27th OF MAY, 1975; AND, <br />INSTRUCTING THE CLERK OF THE COUNCIL TO PUBLI- <br />CIZE THIS RESOLUTION TO THOSE SANTA ANA RESIDENTS <br />WHO RESIDE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE GARDEN <br />GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, voters who reside within the boundaries of <br />the Garden Grove Unified School District will be asked in <br />an election to be conducted on May the 27th, 1975 to decide <br />whether they wish to voluntarily join the Coast Community <br />College District; or, to allow the State of California to <br />assign them to a nearby community college district; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 27,723 people living in 7,300 residential <br />units, although geographically within the boundaries of the <br />Garden Grove Unified School District, are in fact citizens <br />of the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of California has already indicated <br />the community college district to which these particular <br />Santa Ana residents would be assigned in the event Proposi- <br />tion A fails or Proposition B succeeds to be the Rancho San- <br />tiago Community College District; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this council feels that the residents of Santa <br />Ana should be allowed to attend their own local college rather <br />than be required to travel to the neighboring cities of Costa <br />Mesa or Huntington Beach to attend a college there; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these same Santa Ana Citizens would also be <br />required to pay an administrative tax override, over and <br />above their normal tax rate, of 40¢ per $100 evaluation for <br />4 years decreasing to 20¢ per $100 for an additional 6 years, <br />assessed by the Coast Community College District for the <br />privilege of joining their district; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there would be no administrative tax override <br />if assigned by the State to the local community college <br />district; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the local co~m~unity college district has a <br />lower normal tax rate than Coast Community College District. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council <br />of the City of Santa Ana recommend to the voters of Santa <br />Ana residing within the boundaries of the Garden Grove School <br />District to support Proposition B in the election to be held <br />on May the 27th, 1975, <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the same voters be recommended <br />to oppose Proposition A on the same ballot which would deny <br />them the opportunity to attend their own local community college. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council is <br />hereby directed to publicize this resolution to the concerned <br />voters, and any other persons or groups she deems appropriate. <br /> <br /> <br />
