RESOLUTION NO. 75-?6 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING <br />BEN "BOMO" KORAL <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL was born in a southern area <br />of Santa Ana formerly called Glorietta, California on February <br />27, 1910; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL attended the grammar schools <br />of Delhi, Willard and Lathrop in Santa Aha; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL demonstrated his industrious <br />personality at an early age by accepting a 30-mile bicycle <br />newspaper delivery route to Irvine Ranches via many dirt roads, <br />rain or shine; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL graduated from Santa Ana High <br />School and Santa Ana College completing all his formal educa- <br />tion in the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORA£ received outstanding recogni- <br />tion in sports while attending Santa Ana High School and Santa <br />Ana College playing both baseball and football; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL received greater recognition <br />by being elected to the softball Hall of Fame as a catcher; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL demonstrated his great love <br />for recreation and sportsmanship by coaching and encouraging <br />others in sports; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BEN "BOMO" KORAL further demonstrated his love <br />for sports by accepting City service and by instituting and <br />conducting a recreation program for the City of Santa Ana in <br />April of 1933; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, ~EN "BOMO" KORAL was instrumental in the con- <br />struction of the Santa Ana Municipal Stadium; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he was instrumental in personally supervising <br />the planting of over 100,000 trees and the construction of 35 <br />of Santa Ana's 36 parks totaling more than 357 acres; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he has served the City of Santa Ana as gardener, <br />head gardener, forester, park foreman, construction supervisor, <br />recreation supervisor, recreation director, assistant superin- <br />tendent of parks, and park superintendent; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he did not use one day sick leave for 35 years; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he left the City service only to serve in the <br />armed services during World War II and received two purple hearts <br />in the "Battle of the Bulge"; and <br /> <br /> <br />
