MJK:nr <br />10-13-76 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 76-128 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE <br />TO ENACT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING LOCAL PARAMEDIC <br />PROGRAMS ON A PERMANENT BASIS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act has authorized <br />the provision of paramedic services by local government as a pilot pro- <br />gram; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act has recently been <br />extended to December 31, 1977; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has demonstrated its ability to <br />meet the intemt of the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act through the effec- <br />tive training of firemen-paramedics and the provision of emergency care <br />in a timely and effective manner; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, over ten thousand victims in the City of Santa Ana <br />have been provided emergency care through the Paramedic Program since its <br />inception in February, 1974; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Firemen-Paramedic Programs as authorized by the Wed- <br />worth Townsend Act have proved to be an effective and worthwhile local <br />public service: <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the <br />City of Santa Ana urges the California State Legislature to enact legisla- <br />tion that will provide permanent authority to local governments for the <br />provision of Paramedic Services; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed <br />to send a copy of this resolution to all area representatives of the State <br />Legislature, the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities, <br />as well as to the Mayors of all Orange County cities. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED, this 26th day of <br />following vote: <br /> <br />October <br /> <br />, 1976, by the <br /> <br />AYES: COUNCILMEN: Brandt, Ward, Ortiz, Yamamoto, Garthe <br /> <br />NOES: COUNCILMEN: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: Bricken, Evans <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> <br />KEITH L.
