RESOLUTION NO. 76-143 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA HONORING <br />EUGENE GRISET UPON HIS 100TH <br />BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, EUGENE GRISET has resided in Santa Ana for 78 <br />years, having moved to Orange County in 1898 with his mother and <br />three brothers to engage in the farming and dairy business; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, EUGENE GRISET has been active in the spiritual <br />affairs of the community as a founder of the Country Church of <br />Talbert in 1902 and a member of the Country Church of Greenville <br />where he met his wife, Lula Townsend, in 1912; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, EUGENE GRISET has provided guidance and inspiration <br />to the youth of the community, serving as an active boys leader <br />in the Santa Ana YMCA for 30 years until World War II; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, one of the high school boys EUGENE GRISET taught <br />was W. Cameron Townsend who later founded the Wycliffe Bible <br />Translators in 1934, which is now one of the world's largest <br />mission organizations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for a 30 year period during and after World War <br />II, EUGENE GRISET personally helped thousands of servicemen through <br />the Orange County Christian Service Organization which he helped <br />found; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, EUGENE GRISET has 3 children, <br />and 6 great grandchildren and resides at 1532 <br />in Santa Ana with his wife of 62 years, Lula; <br /> <br />13 grandchildren <br />South Diamond Street <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on the 22nd day of November, 1976, EUGENE GRISET <br />is celebrating his 100th birthday, a monumental landmark in a <br />life filled with dedication for the spiritual well being of his <br />fellow man. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN GARTHE, Mayor of the City of <br />Santa Ana, do hereby resolve that EUGENE GRISET is to be lauded, <br />honored and congratulated on this 100th birthday and for his work <br />and concern for the quality of life in the City of Santa Ana, <br />the County of Orange, the United States and other countries. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED this 23rd day of <br />following vote: <br /> <br />Mnvmmhmr , 1976, by the <br /> <br />AYES: COUNCILMEN: Yamamoto, Garthe, Ortiz, Brandt <br /> <br />NOES: COUNCILMEN: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: Bricken, Evans, Ward <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> FLORENCE I.
