! <br /> <br />CITY OF SAN~A ANA <br /> <br />LEISURE SERVICES I~AGER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />~der administrative direct/on, promotes and administers the City's recreation program <br />and the operation of the municipal zoo, stadit~n, regional park and related recreational <br />and cultural facilities. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIE~ <br /> <br />Formulates, develops and implements an integrated, municipal recreation and leisure <br />services program; participates in the development of plans for the improvement of the <br />municipal zoo, athletic stadium, regional park and related public-use facilities; <br />confers with and advises the Director in establishing program goals and objectives, <br />priorities and general work schedules; directs and coordinates the City recreation <br />program and the operation' and maintenance of assigned public-use facilities; establishes <br />and enforces, through subordinate supervisors, operating policies, procedures and per- <br />formance standards; selects, develops, supervises and evaluates principal subordinates <br />and directs the selection, training and evaluation of other personnel; promotes, coordin- <br />ates and schedules use of facilities by general public and commercial clients; negotiates <br />with prospective co-~ereial clients for presentation of professional athletic events <br />and performing arts productions, and private sponsorship of selected recreational and <br />amusement activities; determines and recommends cost recovery fee schedules for use of <br />special facilities; performs research for and prepares rough drafts of bid specifications <br />and contracts; supervises the monitoring of contractor performance to ensure compliance <br />with provisions of agreements and coordinates performance of City's contractural obli- <br />gations; coordinates scheduling of general landscape and facility maintenance services <br />from other City operating un/ts; prepares budget estimates and controls expenditures; <br />prepares comprehensive reports; participates in the public relations activities of the <br />department, including public speaking engagements; performs other related duties as <br />required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />This is a responsible supervisory and administrative work in planning and directing the <br />activities of the Leisure Services Division of the Recreation and Parks Department. <br />The position also involves substantial amount of work of a promotional nature requiring <br />considerable'initiative, ingenuity, persuasiveness and independent judgement to achieve <br />program goals and objecti{es. Work is performed under general direction of the Director <br />of Recreation and Parks and is reviewed through conferences, evaluation of results <br />achieved and reports from the public. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Education equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with speciali- <br />zation in business or public administration or closely related field; three years' res- <br />ponsible experience in developing customer usage of and managing a comprehensive public <br />recreation or entertainment program; any equivalent combination of training and experience <br />which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />KNOWLEDGE OF: Public recreation programs and activities; business management principles. <br />and practices as applied to the preparation of large public-use facilities; client needs <br />and practices in presenting commercial events and programs, including industry standards <br />regarding services supplied to or required of such clients. ABILITY TO: determine long <br />range needs for development, improvement and utilization of public-use facilities; for- <br />mulate and promote plans and organize resources and work to meet those needs; apply <br />highly developed communication skills; coordinate multiple services; supervise the work <br />of others; and establish and maintain productive working relationships with civil organi- <br />zations, special interest groups, commercial clients, City officials and employees and <br /> <br /> <br />
