RESOLUTION NO. 77-105 - A RESOLUTION OF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA HONORING <br />ROBBRTO DE LA MADRID, NEWLY ELECTED GOVERNOR OF <br />BAJA, CALIFORNIA NORTE, MEXICO, AND PROCLAIMING <br />THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 2S THROUGH 30 AS "ROBERTO <br />DE LA MADRID WEEK" <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA MADRID received a mandate from the <br />1.3 million citizens of Baja, California Norte, <br />when they overwhelmingly elected him Governor on <br />August ?, 1977; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA MADRID was born in Calexico, Cali- <br />fornia, thus making him the first United States <br />born Governor in Mexican history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has continued his close ties <br /> with the American People throughout his life; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has lived and worked at <br />various times in the United States of America as <br />a student and a businessman; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has dedicated more than a <br />quarter of a century of service to his country; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has compiled outstanding <br />contributions and achievements in various positions, <br />including: Board of Material Betterment, Director <br />of Economic Development, Director of Tourism, <br />Director of National Lottery, and a National <br />Senator; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />ROBERTO DE LA ~IRDRID's acute understanding of <br />American mores and culture, coupled with proven <br />skills in both the business and political arenas, <br />promises an expansion in the already amiable <br />relationship between the communities of Baja <br />and Southern California; <br /> <br />NOW, <br /> <br />THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of the City of <br /> Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., do hereby resolve <br /> that ROBERTO DE LA MADRID is to be honored and con- <br /> gratulated on his election to the office of Governor <br /> of the State of Baja, California Norte, Mexico, and <br /> we do hereby proclaim the week of September 25 <br /> through September 30, 1977 as: <br /> <br />"ROBERTO DE LA MADRID WEEK'! <br /> <br />in the City of Santa Ana on the occasion of his visit <br />to Orange County, and the banquet to be held in his <br />honor on September 30, 1977. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this 6th day of September, 1977, by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen: Yamamoto, Ward, Ortiz, Evans, <br /> Garthe, Brandt <br /> <br />NOES: <br /> <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />FLORENCE I.
