KLG:ar <br />2/6/78 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 78-18 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING BAXTER WARD, LOS <br />ANGELES COUNTY SUPERVISOR <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward is a member of the Los Angeles <br />County Board of Supervisors; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has been serving as a county <br />supervisor for the last five years; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has dedicated himself to im- <br />proving services to his county residents by constantly work- <br />ing towards excellence in many Los Angeles County projects; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has consistently strived for <br />better transportation programs through all modes of trans- <br />portation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward provided much leadership to <br />establish a viable transportation program between San Diego <br />and Los Angeles; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in 1974, Baxter Ward proposed the use of <br />outstanding rail passenger service to residents of Los Angeles <br />County, Orange County and San Diego COunty; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Baxter Ward's agressive pursuit of this goal <br />has laid the foundation of regular AMTRAK service between Los <br />Angeles and San Diego Counties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this service will initiate its' inaugural <br /> run of an eight car passenger train, appropriately named The <br />"El Camino", between San Diego and Los Angeles on February 14, <br /> 1978; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through Baxter Ward!s diligence and dedica- <br />tion to this project, 6.7 million people now living in the <br />AMTRAK corridor between Los Angeles and San Diego will benefit. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA: <br /> <br /> That Baxter Ward should be lauded for his dedication <br />and coordination with the Counties of Los Angeles, Orange and <br />San Diego, as well as Cal Trans, AMTRAK, and many other agencies, <br />public and private, to provide realistic, reasonable transpor- <br />tation to Los Angeles and San Diego, thus benefiting Santa Ana <br />on this the inaugural trip of the E1 Camino, February 14, 1978. <br /> <br /> <br />
