KLG:ar <br />4/27/78 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 78-51 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA URGING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO APPROVE A VARIANCE FROM <br />STATE AIRPORT NOISE STANDARDS AT THE ORANGE <br /> COUNTY AIRPORT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of this <br />Council that a public hearing is to be held on May 22, 1978 <br />by the State Department of Transportation regarding an ap- <br />plication for a variance from State Airport Noise Standards <br />at and on behalf of the Orange County Airport; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said Airport maintains a noise abatement <br />program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in the most recent reporting period, <br />the Orange County Airport has served more than 2,158,000 <br />passengers and dispatched and received 2,455 tons of air <br />cargo, thus making a substantial contribution to the econom- <br />ic well-being of the geographic area that is served by said <br />airport; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the need for adequate commercial air <br />services for said area continues to grow; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, present restrictions on air operations <br />hamper the ability of carriers to provide adequate commer- <br />cial air service to the more than 1.7 million people in <br />Orange County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council recognizes that commercial <br />air operations represent an irritant to some persons in <br />the vicinity of the Airport, but are of vital importance <br />to the great majority of the residents of Orange County. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT P. ESOLVED by the City Coun- <br />cil of the City of Santa Ana: <br /> <br /> That this Council does hereby urge the State <br />Department of Transportation to grant said variance, and <br />to provide suitable flexibility so that the carriers using <br />Orange County Airport can provide for the air transportation <br />needs of the citizens of Santa Aha, and of Orange County <br />as a whole. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED, this 1st <br />1978, by the following vote: <br /> <br /> AYES: <br /> NOES: <br /> ABSENT: <br /> <br /> day of May , <br /> <br />COUNCILMEN: Yamamoto, Brandt, Bricken, Garthe, Ward <br /> <br />COUNCILMEN: NoneS/ /~ <br /> <br /> MAYOR <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> ~LOR~NC5 I.
