Council Chamber Santa Aha City wa11 August 4, 1958. 7:30 P.M. City Council met in regular session. ~e~ting called to order by the Mayor. Present: Councilmen Absent: Counct 1 men Royal E. Hubbard, Stanley C. Gould, Jr., A.A.W~11~ Dale H. Heiuly J. Ogden Markel The Pledge of Allegiance was given. Tnvocation was given by Reverend Robert Bos of the First Presbyterian Church. Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes of July 2_1, 1958, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by F~"l! amd. carried. Bid acceptance Sanitary sewer on Raitt Street from Fairview to Cubbon A tabulation of bids was presented by the Manager for the construction of sanitary cew~r on Raitt Street from Fairview Avenue to Oubbon Street, Project No. 22, as follows: Danfel Estrada ~-~-~.28 10~ bond Edwin L. Barkley 1816.50 10~ bond Ted Worley 1847.50 lo~ bond Sanitary ~ineering Co. 2123.75 lO~ bond On rec~ndation of the c~tttee, and on motion of Councilma~ Hubbard, seconded by w~l 1 and carried, the low bid of Edwin L. Barkley, in the sum of $1816.50, on the basis of the unit prices as set forth in his bid proposal, was accepted and Hearing Vacate portion E. 5th St. between Poinsettia St. and Sou. Pac. Co. R.R. right-of-way ~11 other bids rejected. This bein~ the dste set for hearing on the vacation of a portion of East Fifth Street between Poinsettia Street and the Southern Pacific Co. Railroad right-of-way, the Clerk read c,~....~nicatlon from the Southern Counties Gas Co~ requesting that their franchise rights be reserved. On motion of Col~ucllman GOuld, seconded by and carried, the communication was received and filed. It was moved by Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, that the matter gO off the Hearing - Amendment No. 254 - Plaguing Commission initiated Area described in "Main and Newport N.E.Annex" OrdinAnce calendar. This being the date set for hearing and no protests having been received, amendment No. 254 initiated by the Planning Commission was considered to reclaesify frc~ to M-1 District that ax, ea described in the '1~ain and Newport N.E. Annex", as a tr~-~o~,Alar~shaped parcel located south of Dyer Road, east of Main Street and wast of Newport Avenue, excepting a portion of said annexed area bounded on the wast by Main Street, on the east by Newport Avenue, on the north by an east-w~st line of Main Street and Newport Avenue, which is to be reclassified from R-1 to C-2-PK District. On motion of CoumcJlm~ Hubbard, seconded by M~11 and carried, the fol- lowing Ordi,~nce entitled: "Ordinance ~mending Article IX of the Santa Aha Mmmicipal Code to change the district classification of certain property and to adopt Sectional District Maps 30-5-5 and B1-5-9" Hearing Weed assessments Reso. No. 58-190 Allowing protests was introduced, considered and placed on file for second reading. This being the date set for hearing on the weed assessments, Louis ~OO~m~n~ owner of property at 2701 South Main Street, stated he had been assessed $16.~O by the City for cleaning the weeds on his property and presented two bills paid for hiring men to cut the weeds and requested that the City charges be deleted. The Director of Public Works stated he had tickets which showed the man hours and r~.~s of the persons who did the work. ~rs. Ma~rie O&ins, 1516 North English Street, protested the manner in which the work was done on her property and stated that the burning of the weeds cumpletely d~,aged a walnut tree, orange tree and a grape vine. She also said that about one-half of the work was done before the City forces came on the property and protested the charge of $37.64. Nearing declared closed. It
