Heinly <br />None <br /> <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was given. <br /> <br />Invocation was given by Reverend Rhodes Martin of the Spurgeon Memorial Methodist <br />Church. <br /> <br />Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes of January 5 and January <br />8~ 1959, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion of Councilman Gould, <br />seconded by Hall and carried. <br /> <br /> Hearing <br />One-way traffic on <br />First Street and <br />on Walnut Street <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing on one-way traffic on Walnut Street and on First <br />Street, the Mayor asked if anyone wished to be heard in protest. Attorney Norman H. <br />Smedegaard, representing the car dealers on First Street, presented letters and <br /> <br />petitions containing approximately 715 signatures protesting against First Street <br /> <br />being one-way, and stated not only the car dealers but other businesses are opposed <br /> <br />to the one-way street; the City will suffer as there will be less sales tax revenue <br /> <br />as the revenue on car sales dropped $35,000.00 in the first quarter 1958. Some of <br /> <br />the owners on W~l~mlt Street desire that one-way traffic be established as they feel <br /> <br />it will enhance property values. By changing the traffic on First Street and Walnut <br /> <br />Street, traffic will increase at the High School and the Headquarters Fire Station <br /> <br />located on Walnut Street will have a problem moving the equilmment out of the station. <br /> <br />Attorney Smedegaard said that First Street should be solved in the same manner as <br /> <br /> <br />
