RESOLUFION NO. 80-11 <br /> <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER WORKER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, performs responsible para-professional work in the <br />development and delivery of a variety of social, cultural, recreational and ~ <br />other programs of a self-improvement nature and assists in the general operation <br />of one or more neighborhood service centers, <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Establishes and maintains liaison with community based organizations, working <br />closely to promote a variety of city-sponsored or community sponsored services <br />and activities; researches social services agencies, and their properties for <br />use by citizens; assists in developing and implementing a variety of community <br />improvement programs, particularly those of educational, cultural, recreational <br />or others of a self-improvement nature; assists in the dessemination of community <br />resource information through the media and resource booklets, performs outreach <br />activities for Center programs; works with other staff on the matching of <br />residents needs with existing resources; may speak to small groups of community <br />residents; provides advice and assistance to persons in human crisis situations; <br />assists in planning, scheduling and coordinating the use of one or more neighbor- <br />hood service centers by social agencies, special purpose groups and individuals <br />providing services and programs for residents of the area; conducts surveys and <br />studies and prepares reports; and performs other related duties as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />An employee in this class is involved in a substantial amount of public contact <br />requiring emotional maturity and a high degree of tact and responsiveness. Work <br />is performed with considerable independence requiring the use of initiative an4 <br />independent judgement subject to policy direction and supervision of an <br />administrative superior. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Completion of 60 semester units of course work at an accredited college or <br />university in social or behavioral science, and one year of experience in community <br />or neighborhood resource identification, community organization or intergroup <br />relations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides <br />the following knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Knowledge of: organized community programs and organizations; area social service <br />agencies and welfare programs; ability to: understand human relationships and <br />problems of people of diverse background; work with people of varying age levels, <br />economic strata, and cultural histories; establish viable working relationships <br />between city government and citizens; prepare and present written and verbal <br />reports; follow instructions and work independently. Some skill in the use of <br />deductiv~ interviewing techniques. <br /> <br /> <br />
