Mr. A. J. Anderson, 309 E. McFadden Avenue, protested the proposed 42-foot widening?
in the old section, whereas the new section is 40 feet, and his front porch will
have to be removed. He pointed out about 75% of the vehicles on McFadden Avenue
turn south b.efore approaching Main Street, and requested consideration of another
road to alleviate this condition. Dr. Craig Carter, Minister of the Church of
Religious Science, owner of property on the north side of McFadden Avenue at the
corner of Orange, stated their Church property would be affected by the widening of
this street, and asked if the proposed width could be lessened to 35 feet and still
meet the requirements for the gas tax fund. The questions were answered by Council~
man Heinly. Minnie Spangler, 1202 Maple Street, said they planned on remodeling
the kitchen and dining r~ and the street widening would cut through these rooms.
Fred A. Davis, ll5 E. McFadden Avenue, said his three lots of 50 feet each would beii
reduced to 33 feet and be too sm~ll for a building. Mrs. C. H. Lurker stated
her property was at the corner of Van Ness near McFadden Avenue dud the widening
would reduce her living room by two feet. Mrs. Kenneth Tul~enwald, 842 E. McFaddenl
Avenue, advised that taking ten feet off their property would approach the front
porch, and the trees would have to be removed. Fred Brownsville, 1203 E. McFadden
Avenue, protested that the steps on the side porch would have to be :removed to allOV
for tree planting strips and asked if the strips were necessary. Kenneth Turtenwal~,
842 E. McFadden Avenue, remarked there were no sidewalks on their street and did nos
want them, and asked for curbing only. Luther Thomas, 930 So. Ross Street, said if
ten feet is taken off his corner lot, a valuable Sycamore tree would have to be re-!
moved from the patio, and the imminent widening would creat~ an impediment to the
sale of his property. Mr. J. W. Law, 854 E. McFadden Avenue, inquired about the
cum2ensation for the trees necessarily removed due to the widening. The hearing waS
declared closed. Vice-Mayor Hubbard left the Chair. Councilman Gould assumed the
Chair. On motion of Council-~n Hubbard, seconded by Heinly end carried, the follow~
