EJC:jd <br />5/18/81 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81- 82 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING NUCLEAR AND <br />OTHER ENERGY SOURCES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana is vitally inter- <br />ested in the needs of the businessmen of Southern California <br />and the economic, environmental and social well-being of <br />Orange County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, adequate future energy supplies for <br />Southern California and diminished dependence on unpredictable <br />supplies of foreign controlled oil will require increasing <br />dependence on multiple sources such as solar, geothermal, <br />wind, coal and nuclear energy resources; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, of the already developed sources of bulk <br />energy, only nuclear energy has the capability of being <br />economically and reliably utilized to a far greater extent <br />than other energy sources during the current decade and <br />therefore, nuclear energy is a most important element to <br />insure the near future energy supplies of Southern California; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, regulatory delays in the siting and <br />licensing of critical electrical generating facilities are <br />costly to businessmen and all other consumers, threaten a <br />healthy and productive economy, and necessitate a greater <br />dependence upon foreign oil supplies. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City <br />Council of the City of Santa Ana supports: <br /> <br />The licensing of Units 2 and 3 of the San <br />Onofre Nuclear Generating Station; <br /> <br />The continued development of other alternate <br />energy sources such as solar, geothermal, <br />wind and coal; and <br /> <br />The continued commitment to energy conser- <br />vation and proper energy management to <br />maximize utilization of domestic energy <br />sources and reduce waste. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED this 18th day of May <br />1981, by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br />NOES: <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBERS:A¢0$ta, 8ricken~ 8riser, <br /> tuxemb0u~ge~ Ma~ke], Mc~ui§an, Set,at0 <br />COUNC I LMEMBERS: N0ne <br /> <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBERS:N0ne <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> <br /> <br />
