Borchard Street, call. <br />lng attention to a serious traffic problem and four near accidents on the cornel <br />of Edinger and Raitt Streets, and Edinger and Center Streets, and suggesting <br />need for a crosswalk guard for the protection of the school children who cross <br />there; from Smedley Junior High School P.T.A. President and Principal, stating <br />their concern for the safety of studer~ pedestrians who must cross Edinger <br />a heavily travelled thoroughfare, to reach Smedley Junior High and Valley <br /> <br />High Schools, and submitting a count of vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the <br />vicinity adjacent to the School, and urging immediate steps to provide either <br />a crossing guard or a traffic signal at Edinger and Raitt Streets; from Valley <br />Senior High School P.T.A. President and Principal requesting reinstatement of a <br />crossing guard or traffic control at the corner of Edinger and Raitt Streets <br />the large number of students who use these crosswalks daily to reach Valley <br />Senior High and Smedley Junior High Schools; and from the Secretary, Board of <br />Education, advising the Board was made officially aware of a serious traffic <br />condition existing on Edinger Street, near the Smedley Junior High School, affe¢ <br />lng not only their safety but also Valley Senior High and Diamond Elementary <br />Schools, and urging steps to alleviate the dangerous conditions existing at <br />school crossing. Mrs. Paul Honeycutt, 2309 So. Park Drive, representing the <br />Smedley Junior High School P.T.A. stated a sur~ey report and letter had been <br />mitted to the City Council indicating the number of vehicles crossing the inter- <br />section of Edinger and Raitt Streets, and requested that a crossing guard or <br />traffic signal be placed at that corner to relieve the traffic condition. On <br />motion of Councilman Hubbard, seccaded by Heinly and carried, the survey report <br />and communication of the P.T.A. Smedley Junior High School; the traffic report <br />from the Director of Public Works, and communications from Jack M. Smith, 2113 <br />W. Borchard Avenue; from the P.T.A. President and Principal of Valley Senior <br />H~gh School; and from the Secretary of City Schools~ were received and filed. <br />Mrs. Sue Baxter, 1237 W. St. Andrews Place, stated she has observed children <br />c~ssi~jg separately, in a disorganized manner, at this corner and that vehicles <br />have to wait from ten to fifteen minutes to come in or out of Smedley Junior <br />High School, and a signal or a crossing guard at this corner would serve this <br />purpose. Mayor Hall left the Chair. Vice-Mayor Hubbard assumed the Chair. <br /> <br />It was moved by CounciLman Brewer, seconded by Hall and carried, that a Police <br />Officer be stationed at the intersection of Edinger and Raitt Streets from 7:30 <br />A.M. to 8:15 A.M. and 2:45 P.M. to 3:30 P.M., each school day.
