RESOLUTION NO. 83-20 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA URGING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />SUPERVISORS TO DELETE THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />A SITE FOR A PROPOSED NEW POST -TRIAL JAIL FACILITY <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana recognizes <br />its responsibility to continue to support the Orange County Superior <br />Court in the City of Santa Ana; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana recognizes <br />its responsibility in not opposing the maintenance or expansion of the <br />existing jail site in the City of Santa Ana for the purpose of pre-trial <br />detention; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana is opposed <br />to the expansion of the existing jail facility in the City of Santa Ana <br />as a post -trial detention facility; and <br />WHEREAS the previous studies of the County have indicated the <br />technical advantages of the Musick site over the downtown Santa Ana site <br />for a post -trial security facility, and such information must be consid- <br />ered in the Envirormental Review process. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA: <br />1. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of <br />Orange eliminate the site behind the present main jail in the city of <br />Santa Ana as a potential site for a new post -trial jail facility. <br />2. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of <br />Orange give no further consideration to the site behind the present main <br />jail in the City of Santa Ana as a potential site for a new post -trial <br />jail facility. <br />3. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of <br />Orange recognize the serious economic and social impact to the City of <br />Santa Ana of creating a new post -trial jail facility behind the present <br />main jail. <br />4. That the City of Santa Ana, if the site within our city <br />is not eliminated, will monitor the Environmental Review process to <br />ensure that the Musick facility is addressed as an alternative and <br />hereby instructs the City Manager and the City Attorney to monitor that <br />process and recommend to the City Council appropriate legal actions that <br />may be initiated by the City of Santa Ana. <br />
