RESOLUTION NO. 84-20 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA OPPOSING <br />AMTRAK'S PROPOSED INTRODUCTION OF THE METROLINER CONCEPT, AN <br />EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICE FOR THE LOS ANGELES-SAN DIEGO CORRIDOR <br /> <br />Orange <br />public <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has traditionally been considered <br />County's center for passenger transportation activity by the general <br />as well as by Amtrak; and <br /> <br />dollar <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana is presently constructing a 16 million <br />multi-modal Regional Transportation Center headquarters for Amtrak; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Amtrak's proposed metroliner service concept would result in <br />a reduction of two stops daily to the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Santa Ana residents as well as other Orange County residents <br />would be substantially impacted by the reduction of service as the County continues <br />to grow and as residents increase their travel to the City to transact their <br />business affairs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the increased track improvements by the collective efforts <br />of the Cities of Fullerton, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside and Santa Ana will <br />reduce travel time thereby accomplishing the same end result as the imple- <br />mentation of the metroliner service concept. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA that the City Council hereby opposes Amtrak's proposed introduction <br />of the metroliner service concept, an express train service for the Los Angeles- <br />San Diego Corridor which discontinues two stops daily to the detriment of the <br />City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this 19t)~day of March, 1984. <br /> <br /> RZyW.
