RESOLUTION NO. 2003-034

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING CONSIDERATION IN THE
ANNUAL CITY BUDGET OF USE OF TWENTY PERCENT
(20%) OF INCREMENTAL PARKING METER COIN
REVENUE FOR ADDITIONAL AND SUPPLEMENTAL
DOWNTOWN MAINTENANCE AND SECURITY

BK: 4/11/03

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
FOLLOWS:

~: The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and
declares as follows:

The City Council has, this day, had first reading of an ordinance to raise the
parking meter rates in the City.

This rate increase was requested by formal resolution, dated October 9,
2002, the Board of Directors of the Downtown Santa Ana Business
Association. Each year, the City and the Association budgets monies for,
inter alia, maintenance and security within the downtown business district

The City has estimated that in its first full year, this increase will generate an
additional $620,000.00 in revenue. Twenty percent (20%) of this
additional, projected first-year revenue Would be $120,000.00.

The above-referenced resolution of the Association requests that this
twenty pement (20%) of the estimated increase in revenues, when
compared to the revenues generated in the last three (3) years by parking
meters, be devoted to additional and supplemental maintenance and
security within the downtown business district.

The downtown business district will benefit from this additional and
supplemental maintenance and security, which would in no way replace or
reduce the maintenance and security already being undertaken within the
downtown business district.

For these reasons, it is appropriate for the City Council to consider annually,
use of this twenty percent (20%) of increased parking revenues, as set forth
above, for additional and supplementat maintenance and security within the
downtown business district.

The City Council shall consider as part of its annual budget, provision

Resolution No. 2003-034
Page I of 2
