RESOLUTION NO. 85- 90 <br /> <br />REL: adg <br />7/19/85 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE: CITy COUNCIL OF ~THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA:SUPPORTING PRADO <br />RESERVOIR WATER CONSERVATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in the semi-arid coastal plain of Southern <br />California, it is imperative that every reasonable measure be <br />taken to conserve precious local water supplies; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Water District is currently <br />seeking to'deve%oP a cooperative program with the U.S. Army Corps <br />of Engineers to optimize the utility of Prado Dam Reservoir on <br />the Santa Ana River in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to <br />store flood and other waters; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by legal stipulation Orange County is entitled <br />to conserve water in the Prado Reservoir up to elevation 514 feet <br />mean sea level; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Water Distriqt has agreed to <br />work with Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and public and <br />private agencies in those counties to mitigate any adverse effects <br />of storage of water for conservation purposes behind Prado Dam; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is essential to continue multiple use of <br />public property and to maintain a-strong commitment to continued <br />cooperation in the management of the Santa Ana River flows for <br />flood control, water conservation, recreation and wildlife and <br />natural habitat preservation, between all agencies, public and <br />private, that share the Prado Basin site; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the City of <br />Santa Ana fully acknowledges the essential nature of water con- <br />servation in the Santa Ana River watershed as described herein <br />and urges the United States Congress to authorize the U.S. Army <br />Corps of Engineers to develop a water conservation program, <br />compatible with its flood control operations, at Prado Dam; and <br /> <br /> <br />
