Following this discussion, the Chair instructed staff to include consideration of a Board <br />position on this matter as an action item on the next regular meeting agenda. <br /> <br />RESIDENT BOARD MEMBER STUDY TRIP TO BALTIMORE AND <br />PHILADELPHIA EMPOWERMENT ZONES <br /> <br />Directors Joe Yanez and Victoria Zaragoza and Community Development District <br />Manager, Regan Candelario presented an overview of their study trips to the cities of <br />Baltimore and Philadelphia's Federal Empowerment Zones. The directors summarized <br />the different programs offered through the zone and the lessons learned. They <br />emphasized the need for the Santa Ana Board to continue to work cooperatively and to <br />focus on outcomes. <br /> <br />3. UPDATE FROM MARKETING COMMITTEE <br /> <br />Victoria Zaragoza, Board Member, briefed the Board relative to actions taken at the <br />March, 2000 meeting of the Marketing Committee. She stated that the Committee's goal <br />is to increase participation and that at the next meeting of the Empowerment Corporation, <br />the committee will present posters and other promotional materials for Board approval. <br /> <br />COMMENTS <br /> <br />1. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />There were no public comments. <br /> <br />2. DIRECTOR COMMENTS <br /> <br />Director Richardson noted that he has returned from Russia and is glad to be back in <br />Santa Ana and as a representative on the Board. <br /> <br />Director Leamon asked that staff investigate the possibility of coordinating the Request <br />for Proposals (RFP) to be presented by the Budget and Program Task Force with the <br />pending RFP from the Prop 10 Commission relative children needs. <br /> <br />Director Cibrian noted that representatives of the Orange County Congregation <br />Community Organization would be in Sacramento on May 2, 2000 to mandate the State <br />to spend its share of tobacco settlement funds on health programs. <br /> <br />NEXT REGULAR MEETING - Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEMS - Continued update from Budget and Program Task Force, and report on <br /> 35% rule for FEZ Industrial Development Bonds <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT - 7:48 P.M. <br /> <br />D'atrmm E.
