470

7. DESCRIPTION
C, oedlttoe CI~:~ Ore
XXX excellent deteriorated unaltered
. good ruins altered
fair unexposed

Describe the present and original (if known) physical appearance

Check

XXX original site

moved date

Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church has been part of the
Santa Ana community, in one form or another, for one hundred
years. Built and dedicated in 1887, the original church was
destroyed in a fire in 1896. In.subsequent years numerous
buildings served as the church building. The church, however,
has always been located in the area of Minter, Lacy and stafford
(the.latter is now Civic Center Dr.) Streets.

The present church structure was constructed in 1947; the
first Mass was celebrated on Thanksgiving Day, November 28,
1947. Architect Harold Gimeno chose an English Gothic style
for the building with the intent of creating an original
and unique church, unmatched in the area. Even to this day
Saint Joseph's remains one of the only, if not only, true
gothic archetecture building in the County.

Exhibit A
