475

In 1943 the time was felt to be right for the construction of a
new church, and a site was obtained on the corner of Stafford
and Minter Streets. World War II prolonged the building
however, and it was not until January 7, 1947 that the building
operations were begun. The first Mass was celebrated on
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1947. A new rectory was also
built adjacent to the church.

The architecture of the church was termed by the architect as
"English Gothic". One noted feature of the new church are the
stained glass windows of the fifteen mysteries of the rosary,
commemorating the first church in Santa Aha of Our Lady of the
Rosary.

In 1952 the new Saint Joseph's school was built, subsequent
additions to theparish have been the addition of parking lots
across from the school and immediately behind the church. In
1953 St. Joseph's celebrated its golden Jubilee. As a fitting
sign of the faith of the parishioners, a commemorative chalice
made entirely from materials donated by the people, was
presented to the parish. St. Joseph Church has been part of the
Santa Aha Community for 100 years.

Exhibit B
