402 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 88-65 <br />PAGE TWO <br /> <br /> WI~ERFAS, the City of Santa Ana is a water supplier in <br />Metropolitan's service area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has the power and authority to adopt <br />water conservation measures within its boundaries; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Executive Director, <br />Public Works Agency is authorized to implement a voluntary drought <br />conservation progra~a, with a goal of reducir~] water use by 10 percent, to <br />reduce the risk and severity of water shortages should the drought continue in <br />1989; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Santa Ana will: <br /> <br /> a. Audit its landscape irrigation syst~us to maximize irrigation <br /> efficiency; adjust sprinklers and irrigation systems to avoid <br /> overspray, runoff and waste; <br /> b. Not irrigate its landscape during the hot hours of the day <br /> and/or during the morning and evening peak hours, and avoid <br /> watering on windy days; <br /> c. Shut off decorative fountains unless a water recycling system <br /> is used; <br />d. Not hose down driveways, sidewalks and other paved surfaces, <br /> except for health or sanitary reasons; <br /> e. Whenever replacing plumbing fixtures utilize low-flow devices <br /> except for those fixtures that require high-flow fixtures for <br /> health and/or sanitary reasons; <br />f. Check faucets, toilets, and pipes, both indoor and outdoor, <br /> for leaks and repair them imuediately. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Santa Ana urge its custemers to: <br /> <br /> a. Adjust sprinklers and irrigation system, s to avoid overspray, <br /> runoff and waste; <br />b. Avoid watering in the hot part of the day and/or during <br /> morning and evening peak hours, and avoid watering on windy <br /> <br />c. Install new landscaping, low-water-using trees and plants and <br /> efficient irrigation syst~us; <br />d. Shut off decorative fountains unless a water recycling system <br /> is used; <br /> e. Not hose down driveways, sidewalks or other paved surfaces, <br /> except for health or sanitary reasons; <br />f. Install pool and spa covers to minimize water loss due to <br /> evaporation; <br /> <br /> <br />
