A RESOLUTION OF THE SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL <br />SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH SPECIFIES NEW <br />FUNDING FOR JAIL CONSTRUCTION AT GYPSUM CANYON <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Supervisors is pursuing <br />state legislation that would authorize them to place before the <br />voters a proposition for a 1/2 cent sales tax increase for court <br />and jail facilities in the county, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The proposed language of this bill does not <br />designate the increased revenues for any specific jail site in <br />the county, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors has already spent <br />millions of dollars and a significant amount of time on <br />selecting the Coal Gypsum Canyon site as the most practical and <br />feasible location for a new jail facility in the county, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Santa Ana already has a fair-share <br />burden of the inmate population in the county, and it would be <br />inappropriate to tolerate any new or expanded jail facilities <br />within City boundaries, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Santa Ana City <br />Council support the Coal Gypsum Canyon site as the recipient <br />any new jail construction revenue generated from a 1/2 cent <br />sales tax increase in Orange County. <br /> <br />of <br /> <br /> AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City Council will <br />oppose any bill if it does not include language designating <br />Coal Gypsum Canyon as the recipient of new jail construction <br />monies. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this 21st day of February, 1989. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />::.049 <br /> <br /> C.
