RESOLUTION NO. 89-0~9 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING <br /> ENFORCEMENT OF ALL LAWS AND REGULATIONS <br />AIMED AT THE CONTROL OF CRIMINAL GANG ACTIVITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Aha will not tolerate the <br />proliferation of criminal street gangs and the resulting blight <br />on the community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, neighborhoods and schools in our city have the <br />right to be free from the fear and influence of criminal street <br />gangs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, criminal street gangs present a poor example <br />and a clear danger to the youth of our community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, criminal gang activity adds significantly to <br />the crime rate and narcotic use in our city; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State Legislature has passed the Street <br />Terrorism Act which is a law directly aimed at control of <br />criminal street gang activity; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> 1. Every department in the city structure shall exercise <br />whatever power is available to them to control gang activity and <br />discourage youth involvement in criminal street gangs. <br /> <br /> 2. The Police Department, in cooperation with the City <br />Attorney's Office, shall vigorously enforce all laws, ordinances, <br />and regulations that are applicable to gang activity, and shall <br />use all means at their disposal to accomplish this task. <br /> <br /> 3. The Police Department, in cooperation with the Orange <br />County District Attorney's Office, shall make every effort to <br />enforce and prosecute violations of the Street Terrorism <br />Enforcement Act as it applies to criminal street gangs. <br /> <br /> <br />
