RESOLUTION NO 90-055 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO MEASURE A ON THE JUNE 1990 <br /> BALLOT WHICH WOULD MANDATE THAT ALL FUTURE <br /> JAILS BE LOCATED IN SANTA ANA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Measure A <br />states that all future <br />600 feet from a school, <br /> <br />qualified for the June <br />jails shall be located <br /> <br />1990 Ballot which <br />in Santa Ana and <br /> <br />147 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors have already spend over <br />million in tax payers dollars and 7 years of analysis in <br />determining that Coal-Gypsum Canyon, which is located in a <br />rural portion of the County, is the best location for a new <br />jail, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to build another jail in urban Santa Ana would <br />mean the jail would have to be over 40 stories high which is <br />not only extremely costly in terms of operations but is also <br />considered unsafe by Sheriffs Departments, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Santa Ana is doing its fair share in housing the <br />inmate population with more than 50% of the County inmates in <br />the Central Jail and Intake Release Center, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, locating a jail only 600 feet from a school would <br />mean that children would be walking by or near a jail everyday, <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that on behalf of the <br />residents of Santa Ana we oppose Measure A on the June 1990 <br />Ballot. <br /> <br /> <br />
