Sixth St.) <br /> <br />Protest <br />Mrs. Robert G.Holcomb <br />(Wishing Well Motel) <br /> <br />~ainting of the elevated water tank near Fourteenth and Poinsettia Streets. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of <br />Department of Public Works was approved for payment to the Northside Church of <br />Christ, 123 south Broadway, in the sum of Si, BOB.75, covering City's share of <br />improvements On Grand Avenue, 560 feet south of the center line of Santa Clsra Av- <br />enue, in exchange for dedication of Grand Avenue to the ultimate width, and con- <br />struction of curb, gutter, sidewalk and pavement; payment to be made after receipt <br />of deed and completion of construction. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of <br />the Department of Public Works was approved for payment to Southern California Ed- <br />ison Company, in the sum of $8,875.93, for the City's share of street and drainage <br />improvements on Grand Avenue at the southeast corner of McFadden Avenue and Grand <br />Avenue, in exchange for dedication of Grand Avenue to the ultimate width, construc. <br />tion of a culvert structure, and construction of curb, gutter, sidewalk and pave- <br />ment; payment to be made after receipt of' deed and completion of construction. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly a~d carried, the request of <br />Purchasing Agent was granted for the demolition and removal of the Audio-Visual <br />Building located at ll04A West Eighth Street. <br /> <br />A report was presented from the Special Library Fact-Finding Committee with the <br />rec~amendation that the Hoover and Wilson Library Stations be operated half of the <br />present scheduled days until the first of January, 1962, for comparison with the <br />bookmobile service and the City Council to review the results and take appropriate <br />action. Chairman Kenneth Mitchell, representing the group, stated he had nothing <br />further to add to the report as submitted. A Minority Report was presented and <br />Wilber F. Eartman, lOO1 Grovemont Street, representing the ~inority group, request- <br />ed a continuance to August 7, 1961, so that further evidence could be ~resented <br />beneficial to the City libraries. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by <br />Schlueter and carried, the reports were received, filed, and action deferred until <br />August 7, 1961. <br /> <br />Th~ matter of a noise nuisance from certain newly installed equipment at Arrow <br />Laundry & Cleaners, 620 E. Sixth Street, which shakes the g~o~ud, has broken win- <br />dows and caused other structural damage to buildings within a four-block area, was <br />again presented for the City Attorney's determination as to whether or not the op- <br />eration of the new equipment is a public or a private nuisance. The Attorney <br />ly reported a determination had been made ar~a public nuisance exists, and on mo- <br />tion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Brewer and carried, the Attorney was <br />ted to take fmmediate legal action to abate the public nuisance emanating from the <br />Arrow Laundry & Cleaners, and secure all evidence necessary to carry the case to a <br />final conclusion.' <br /> <br />Mrs. Robert G. Holccmb, 2211 East First Street, owner of the Wishing Well Motel, <br />read a cu~aanication she had addressed to the Editorial Department, The Register, <br />concerning the visit of two police officers, in the early morning hours, and the <br />questioning of certain registered guests and the operation of the motel. Mrs. <br />comb protested the present Resorting Ordinance of the Municipal Code, stating it <br />would do more harm than good. On motion of CouncilmAn Hubbard, seconded by Heinly <br />and carried, the cu~aunication was received and filed. <br /> <br /> <br />
