RESOLUTION NO. 93-019 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA REVISING THE CONDI- <br />TIONS UNDER WHICH FORMER MEMBERS OF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL ARE AUTHORIZED TO CONTINUE <br />PARTICIPATION IN HEALTH AND DENTAL PLANS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Section 53201 of the Government Code permits the <br />legislative body of a local agency to provide for the continuation <br />of any health benefits for retired employees and former elective <br />members of the legislative body subject to such conditions as the <br />legislative body may establish; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, elected city council members are members of the <br />redevelopment agency of the City and, as such, are eligible to <br />participate in the City's health and dental insurance benefit <br />plans; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, employees who retire from service with the City are <br />currently permitted to continue participation in the health and <br />dental insurance plans which the City offers so long as the retired <br />employee pays the full costs of the insurance benefits; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the city council, by its prior Resolution No. 91-104, <br />adopted November 18, 1991, determined to enable former members of <br />the city council who have served at least one full term to continue <br />participation in the health and dental insurance plans offered by <br />the City after the council member leaves office; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the city council now desires to extend the same <br />privilege to former council members who have served on the city <br />council for a period of at least four years, although not one full <br />term; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> 1. Members of the city council (including the mayor) who <br />have either completed one or more terms of office or who have <br />served on the city council for a period of at least four years may <br />elect to continue participation in the health and/or dental <br />insurance plans which the City offers after they leave office. <br /> <br /> 2. Any former council member who elects to continue <br />participation in any health and/or dental plan must agree to pay, <br />and must pay, the full cost to the City of such health and dental <br />insurance benefits for said person's participation therein. <br /> <br /> 3. This Resolution supersedes and replaces city council <br />Resolution No. 91-104. <br /> <br /> <br />
