REL: 10/5/95 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95- 066 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE ENTRY <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA INTO THE GREAT <br />AMERICAN MAIN STREET AWARDS COMPETITION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's <br />National Main Street Center, along with Edward D. Jones & Co., are <br />cosponsoring the Great American Main Street Awards, which recognize <br />the nation's best community efforts at revitalizing traditional <br />downtowns; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana's entry into this contest is <br />justified and substantiated by the following efforts to improve its <br />downtown; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the economic health and cultural vibrancy of downtown <br />Santa Ana is crucial to the overall well being of the City of Santa <br />Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana wholeheartedly supports downtown <br />as demonstrated in the creation of a downtown redevelopment project <br />area, business improvement district, parking assessment district, <br />facade rebate program, direct loan program and small business <br />administration program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Santa Aha was successful in being chosen <br />for the site of the U.S. Federal Courthouse for this region; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana has demonstrated the commitment <br />to maintain all government offices in the Civic Center and downtown <br />area, thus materially assisting efforts to revitalize downtown <br />Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana, through the Job Partnership <br />Training Act, hired 1002 disadvantaged, high-risk youth in summer <br />jobs for 11 weeks throughout the downtown and Civic Center area in <br />1995, and provided academic enrichment through required schooling <br />to these youth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the city of Santa Ana has assisted in the <br />rehabilitation of historic structures, creating an historic <br />district, and in 1984 was listed on the National Register of <br />Historic Places; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through public/private partnerships, the City has <br />enhanced the downtown area community with the development of Fiesta <br />Marketplace, Park Tower, Park Place and the Artists Village; and <br /> <br /> <br />
