365 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98- 0 61 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE <br />EXECUTION OF A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH <br />KABOOM, A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, <br />FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF <br />PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT (PHASE I) AT <br />SANTA ANITA PARK <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has been selected to receive a grant from Kaboom, a non- <br />profit organization, in the amount of $15,000, to design and construct playground equipment at <br />Santa Anita Park; and <br /> ¢ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Kaboom is a national t~on-profit organization that joins together individuals, <br />organizations and businesses for the purpose o~f building community partnership to construct safe <br />and accessible playgrounds; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, over the past month, City staff has collaborated with the Santa Anita <br />neighborhood and the Home Depot to implement this program. The neighborhood has been <br />involved in numerous planning meetings, and has committed over 100 volunteers for the project. <br />Also, Home Depot has agreed to be the corporate sponsor of the program by providing $10,000 in <br />materials and 100 volunteers to help construct the playground area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the students at Russell Elementary School will assist in the project by <br />participating in "Design Day", an event at which they will be given an opportunity to design and <br />draw the types of playground equipment they would like to see at the park; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Kaboom will provide staff to assist in community organization, community <br />fund raising, and community participation in the design and construction of the playground; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Kaboom grant funding and community effort will initiate Phase I of the <br />Santa Anita Park playground equipment improvements. Matching funds in the amount of $15,000 <br />are required of the City in order to participate in this program. Said matching funds have been <br />budgeted in the Community Development Agency's North Harbor Operations Capital Projects <br />account. <br /> <br /> <br />
