371 <br /> <br />RESOLUTIONNO. 98- 06 4 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA <br />AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO EXECUTE A GRANT <br />AWARD AGREEMENT WITH THE CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF <br />TRAFFIC SAFETY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Police Department has been awarded a $680,590 Traffic Offender Program <br />Grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this grant award provides funds to reduce the number of accidents occurring in Santa <br />Ana by targeting suspended, revoked and unlicensed drivers thorough the creation of a Traffic Offender <br />Program ("TOP") task force; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the grant award will initially fund three additional Police officers, one non-swom <br />police investigative specialist and one non-sworn senior office assistant; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the TOP task force will integrate an extensive community education program with <br />focused enforcement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Program will decrease the number of suspended, revoked and unlicensed drivem <br />and thereby decrease the number of traffic accidents in the City; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> 1.
