224 <br /> <br />PROSECTION <br /> <br />The Orange County District Attorney's Office will assign one experienced Deputy District. Attorney full <br />time and one experienced District Attorney Investigator to work in coordination with the Santa Aha <br />Police Department. Orange County Probation Department, Santa Ana Unified School District, and <br />Orange County Bar Foundation (ShortStop/Programa Shortstop). They will be co-located with other <br />component members at the Santa Aha Police Department. They will assist the Police Department in <br />selecting individual gang members for targeting. The District Attorney will then prosecute those <br />individuals for M law violations. The District Attorney will closely monitot-and coordinate all issues <br />relating to witnesses~ including subpoenas, protection and 'additional interviews. Upon acl~ieving a <br />conviction, the District Attorney will seek appropriate jail sentences and gang terms on any probation <br />grant. The Deputy District Attorney will support the Educational and Prevention components of' the <br />Project as a speaker at group ftmctions and as a member of the School Attendance Review Board. <br /> <br />PROBATION <br /> <br />The Orange County Probation Department will assign one experienced Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) <br />to work in coordination with tho. Santa Aha Police Department, Orange County District Anomey's Office, <br />Santa Ana Unified School District, and Orange County Bar Foundation (ShortStop/Programa Shortstop). <br />The DPO will be assigned to the Santa Ana Police Departmem Gang Unit, and will be co4ocated with <br />other component members in-that office. The DPO will assist the Pr.oject Deputy District Attorney in <br />order to enhance sentences, including gang terms of probation, longer commitments, and cooperation <br />from codefendants and wimesses in gang-related crimes. The DPO will carry a reduced caseload in order <br />to provide intensive supervision for targeted gang members, and to assure enforcement of probation <br />conditions and processing of probation violations. Every effort will be made to use up the free time of the <br />gang member with constructive activities, and referrals will be made to ShortStop and the Santa gna <br />School District programs. The DPO will work with the police to conduct suppression activities such as <br />curfew sweeps and execution of search warrants. Recent infori-nation and training will be provided to <br />School District staff, and public speakers will be provided as needed. <br /> <br />PREVENTION <br /> <br />The Orange County Bar Foundation (ShortStop/Programa Shortstop) will provide a bilingual, <br />bicultural Case Manager, with an MFCC credential, to work in coordination with the Santa Ana <br />Police Department, Orange County District Attorney's Office, Orange County Probation <br />Department, and Santa Ana Unified School District. The Case Manager will be available to the <br />Santa Ana Police Department Gang Unit for a minimum of 20 hours per week. The Orange <br />County Bar Foundation will provide Counseling, conflict resolution, mentoring, and redirection <br />programs through case management and referrals. Identified at-risk youth and their parents will <br />be referred to the Case Manager who will direct the youths/parents into the appropriate <br />counseling and intervention programs. <br /> <br /> <br />
