Urban Design Element Policies for Gatewa},s <br /> <br />The General Plan Urban Design Element identifies 19 gateway <br />locations on the attached policy map (Exhibit 1) and specifies <br />the following policies on gateways: <br /> <br />Policy 7.1 <br /> <br />Policy 7.2 <br /> <br />Gateways must be developed at strategically <br />designated locations to communicate a sense of <br />arrival and positive image of the City. <br /> <br />Gateways to Santa Ana must include unique and <br />distinctive streetscape and development design. <br /> <br />Policy 7.3 <br /> <br />Freeway on-and off-ramps are expected to be <br />landscaped in a manner to create a sense of'place <br />and arrival. <br /> <br />Policy 7.4 <br /> <br />Imaginative and distinctive features, such- as <br />entry monuments, public art, decorative <br />landscape, directional signs, landscape <br />statements, and architectural' elements that <br />project a positive image and community character <br />are to be used at City gateways. <br /> <br />Policy 7.5 Improve the rail corridor as an entry point to <br /> the City. <br /> <br />Central Theme for the General Design of GateWays <br /> <br />off-site Improvements <br /> <br />Off-site improvements at gateway locations, whether public or <br />privately funded in conjunction with a development proposal, <br />would incorporate components such as: <br /> <br />Landscaping on public medians or parkways would be provided <br />through Capital Improvement Projects. <br /> <br />Joint improvements to several gateways may be feasible in <br />conjunction with CALTRANS where the gateways occur at <br />freeway interchanges. <br /> <br />Joint improvements for landscaping are encouraged where the <br />gateway occurs on a boundary between Santa Ana and an <br />adjacent city. <br /> <br /> <br />
