RESOLUTION NO. 2002-087 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND <br />THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO EXECUTE A GRANT <br />AWARD AGREEMENT FOR THE 2002 LOCAL LAW <br />ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FROM THE UNITED <br />STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> .Section 1. The City Council of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br /> <br />The Santa Ana Police Department has been selected to receive a grant <br />from the United States Department of Justice, in the amount of <br />$399,789.00. <br /> <br />The Federal Omnibus Appropriations Act provides funding for the <br />implementation of the Local Law Enforcement Grants Program. These <br />funds are allocated to the local law enforcement agencies based on <br />population and crime rates. <br /> <br />This is the seventh year the Police Department has received funding from <br />the U.S. Department of Justice through this grant program. In accordance <br />with the Department of Justice grant requirements, the Police Department <br />established an Advisory Board to solicit non-binding recommendations <br />regarding the proposed use of funds. <br /> <br />Based on the Advisory Board recommendations, staff is proposing the <br />grant funding be used to support overtime programs in the Department's <br />crime reduction efforts and the improvement of public safety throughout <br />the community. <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana has agreed per the grant requirements to allocate <br />matching funds of $44,421.00. <br /> <br /> Section 2. The City Council authorizes the Chief of Police and the Police <br />Department to execute the 2002 Local Law Enforcement Grant Agreement in the <br />amount of $399,789.00 with matching funds in the amount of $44,421.00. <br /> <br /> Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2002-087 <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
