RESOLUTION NO. 2003-046 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING STATE FUNDING OF FIVE <br />PROJECTS AND AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF <br />APPLICATIONS FOR FIVE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING <br />UNDER THE STATE'S SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL <br />PROGRAM <br /> <br />5/2/03LES <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />In 1999 the State of California enacted into La~/Assembly Bill (AB) 1475 that <br />calls for Caltrans to establish and administer a "Safe Routes to School" <br />construction program ("Program") and to use federal transportation funds for <br />the construction of bicycle, pedestrian safety, and traffic calming projects; and <br /> <br />AB 1475 mandates that Caltrans shall make grants available to local <br />governmental agencies under the Program based on the results of a <br />statewide competition; and <br /> <br />C. Projects eligible for funding include construction projects that improve the <br /> safety of pedestrian and/or bicycle routes to and from schools; and <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Santa Ana possesses the legal authority to <br />nominate, finance, acquire, and construct projects that are eligible for funding <br />under the AB 1475 Program; and <br /> <br />E. The City Council of the City of Santa An-; supports efforts to improve <br /> pedestrian safety in the City of Santa Aha. <br /> <br /> Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports State funding of <br />projects in the City of Santa Ana under AB 1475, California's Safe Routes to School <br />Program, and authorizes the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency or his <br />designee to execute in the name of the City of Santa Aha all necessary applications <br />required to be submitted to Caltrans for the five projects identified in Exhibit 1 for <br />funding under California's Safe Routes to School Program. <br /> <br /> Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2003-046 <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
