COMMENTS <br /> <br />Stated that she recently attended an event honoring Brigadier <br />General David Hicks for his loyal and distinguished service and <br />accomplishments as the Deputy Chief of Military Chaplains <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist <br /> · Asked the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency to give a <br /> status report on the construction project on Newhope; Mr. Ross <br /> responded that the project is fully funded and scheduled for <br /> September, 2003 <br /> · Stated that she was surprised at the number of signs and balloons <br /> on Harbor Boulevard and asked staff to look into this situation <br /> · Encouraged residents to attend the Wilshire Square Summer <br /> concert on July 26, 2003 <br /> <br />Councilmember Alvarez <br /> · Stated that she appreciated the comments from the public relative <br /> to the Little Saigon Sign but noted that the sign is not being funded <br /> by City monies but by the Little Saigon business community; she <br /> further noted that the dimensions of the monument are not known <br /> at this time <br /> · Thanked staff for their efforts on the proposed assessment district <br /> <br />Councilmember Franklin <br /> · Noted that there appeared to be more incidents of illegal fireworks <br /> in the City this year on July 4th, and that there was a serious eye <br /> injury to one youth; he asked staff to continue to stress enforcement <br /> of the City's policies related to illegal fireworks <br /> · Noted that he had an opportunity to represent the City Council on a <br /> recent tour of the job center at the depot with the Under Secretary <br /> of Labor <br /> · Asked the City Council to close in memory of Frederick Schrock <br /> who was a resident of Santa Ana for 87 years; Mr. Schrock joined <br /> the First Congregational Church in Santa Ana in 1919, and was <br /> most proud of having been its senior member. Mr. Schrock retired <br /> from the Southern California Edison Company after 35 years of <br /> service and then worked for Calmont Engineering for 10 years. <br /> During World War II he worked making airplane parts and repairing <br /> small appliances <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido <br /> · Announced that the Orange County High School of the Arts <br /> received good news this week in that they had applied for and <br /> received $28 million in Proposition 42 funds <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 235 JULY 7, 2003 <br /> <br /> <br />
