Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-monih contract <br />)eriod including, services to be provided, program goals, client characteristics, & how great Funds will be utilised. <br />Program Description and Goals: The long-term goal for each child in the Tien Challenge After- <br />SchoolLearning Center is the formation of a young person with life and leadership skills, <br />educational and career aspirations, and an ability to learn independently. To achieve shorter -term <br />goals, as soon as children become port of the After School Learning Center, they are set on a path <br />for: (1) Improved and passing grades, (2) Strengthened analytical skills, (3) Life and work skills <br />ievelopment, (4) Improved behavior and attitudes toward family, school and community, (5) Sense <br />of self-esteem and an ability to plan for the future and (6) Drugs and alcohol abuse prevention. <br />The After -School Learning Center seeks to achieve these goals by providing o safe place to go <br />after school as well as supplementary educational components that include tutoring and mentoring <br />volunteers), technological opportunities, family -related workshops and counseling and leadership <br />Formation activities. <br />Target Population: The After School Learning and Prevention Programs target those youth in <br />Santa Ana: (1) from schools that do not have after -school programs, (2) with low academic <br />performance, (3) whose neighborhoods are unsafe, (4) who are identified as "hard to reach," (5) <br />who are not participating in other extracurricular activities, and (6) who are identified as victims of <br />domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, or homelessness. Although participation is voluntary, <br />-many students are referred by their school attendance or disciplinary board or referred by other <br />:ommunity organizations. Eighty percent of program participants are Hispanic. <br />Grant funds: The funds requested from the City of Santa Ana will be used to purchase supplies <br />ncluding, computer software, expansion costs, educational and office supplies, food and other <br />-elated direct service and administrative expenses for the After -School Learning Center. These <br />funds will also provide for travel expenses include the transportation costs associated with picking <br />jp and dropping off students at the After -School Learning Center (gas, vehicle maintenance, <br />nsurance, etc,)and conference costs for staff training and collaboration expenses. <br />Schedule of Performance <br />Estimate the number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents <br />to be served during the 12-month <br />ontract period per quarter: <br />Quarler 1.
