EXHIBIT A
Scope of Work
Annual Accomplishment Goal
I. Number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served with grant funds during the 12-
month contract period = 40 PERSONS
II. Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-month contract
period including, services to be provided, program goals, client characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized.
The Santa Ana Boxing Club is a teen after -school program that provides boxing training and
character development as well as encouragement and help to do well in school. The program is
provided free of charge. We seek caring mentors who are good role -models to come and train
and inspire these young people to succeed. Field trips and special community events as well as
boxing competition events provide added excitement and social opportunities.
The gym is open to the young people of the community each afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
and three nights a week from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. We are open year -around with the exception of a
few weeks when we close for holidays. Our program is located in an old historical street boxing
gym that has served the youth of Santa Ana for over 50 years. The gym is located between two
known gangs and is in one of our poorest neighborhood.
We have four boxing trainers: Anthony Serrano, Bill Cenan, Rich Murg, and Joe Isia. We also
employ a boxing gym manager, John Ramirez, Jr. who collects the paper work: ethnicity and
income forms, permission and liability waiver forms. He also provides security and cleans the
gym.
We serve at -risk inner-city young people between the ages of 8 and 24. 95% of our students are
from extremely -low income families with 87% on reduced or free lunches at school. Many of
our students are English learners. Over half of the teens do not live with their mothers and
fathers.
It is our goal to provide a safe and friendly environment where teens can meet caring adults who
can provide excellent role models and give them guidance and direction. We build confidence
and self-esteem by training them is a sport they can excel in. They build character by learning to
play by the rules, practicing daily, exhibiting discipline in their training and learning to respect
and show good sportsmanship. We also hope to build initiative through the competitive events.
Endurance and learning to accept correction and instruction are also valuable traits that the
young people learn.
The grant funds will be used to primarily pay for the salary of the club director and trainer and
the club manager. Some funds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for the gym,
club insurance and transportation for community events and field trips. A part of the funds are
used for record keeping, fundraising and recruitment efforts as well as regular administrative
tasks.
Exhibit A
