PERSONNEL BOARD REPORT On motion of Councilman Thurman, <br /> seconded by Councilman Markel and <br /> carried, Council ordered filed the <br />Personnel Board report received by Council at meeting of June 5th. <br /> <br />GREENVILLE ASSESSMENTDISTRICT Councilman Brooks stated that he <br /> would like to discuss with a full <br /> Council the Greenville Assessment <br />District~ which was before the Council in July of 1965~ and failed to <br />pass with the required four-fil%hs vote. <br /> <br />JUNKED AUTOMOBILES A short discussion was held on <br /> junk automobiles. The City Manager <br /> stated that the staff would investigate <br />CounciLman Brooks~ report of a Times article about the Long Beach method <br />of disposition of junked autos. <br /> <br />RECESS At g~35 PoMo the meeting was recessed <br /> until 7E30 PoMo at which time it was <br /> reconvened with the same Councilmen <br />present. Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, the Invocation <br />was delivered by The Reverend Leslie Fo Z~mmerman of Goodwill Iudustries. <br /> <br />SEXLINGER CONDEMNATION - Vice Mayor Herrin opened discussion <br />PORTOLA PARK EXTENSION on condemnation proceedings involving <br /> the Sexlinger property for Portola <br />Park extension. Portola, expressing his opinion that, <br />contrary to news articles, the o~ners indicated their plan to <br />sell last Septembe~ <br /> <br />900 individual petitions requesting Council reconsider its action. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Griset, seconded by CounciLman Thurman and <br />carried, that in view of the requests and the presence of the people who <br />are interested in this subject, the Council reconsider the matter and <br />request the City Manager to give the background so that people present <br />would have the same information presented to Council° <br /> <br />The City Manager explained that the City of Santa Ana, in ccmparison bo <br />cities of similar size, is considerably short of park and recreation area; <br />that it is economical to obtain properties for this purpose that are still <br />in acreage; that the City had offered $30,500°00 an acre for the Sexlinger <br />property; this five-acre parcel adjoins the ten acres owned by the City <br />immediately adjacent to the Tustin School property (the City attempts to <br />build parks adjacent to schools to utilize fully each property)° He <br />explained further that the City had been trying to negotiate with the <br />Sexlinger sisters ever since they contacted the City about the possible <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL -215- June 19, 1967 <br /> <br /> <br />
