SOLICITATIONAPPLICATION On motion of Councilman Herrln, seconded by <br /> Councilman Rrooks and carried, the solicitation <br /> application of Childrens Asthmatic Research <br />Institute and Hospital, aanual drive, March 3 - 8, was approved. <br /> <br />DRIVEWAY CONSTRUCTION The request of Harold W. Thornton and Ralph <br /> E. Davidson, regarding driveway constructed <br /> at ill S. Hathaway without meeting the require- <br />ments of the Municipal Code, was considered. <br /> <br />Mr. Harold Thornton and Mr. Ralph Davidson were present. The City Manager explained <br />the City's regulation on the installation of walkways, driveways, etc. out of asphalt <br />concrete. The Manager further explained that the contractor who did the work had <br />filed with the City the estimated amount of the cost of replacement. Mr. Harold <br />Thornton maintained the City had not notified him of the requirement for Portland <br />cement concrete on any occasion he contacted the City. <br /> <br />After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Brooks, seconded by Council- <br />man Carlson and carried, to deny the request to approve the asphalt driveway as <br />installed. Councilman Thurman voted "No". <br /> <br />HISTORICAL SOCIETY COB~'~gNCE Mr. Allen Goddard requested letters of wel- <br /> cc~e and cooperation of City Council during <br /> the Statewide Conference of California <br />Historical Societies to be held at the Saddleback Inn June 20 - 22~ <br /> <br />FIRST STh~'I' DEVELOPMENT Counci;m-~ Markel requested an explanation <br /> of violations of the Municipal Code in the <br /> development of the upholstery shop at 120% <br />West 1st Street° The City Manager explained that when the plot plan was filed, <br />it showed the property line as the exis~lng street line; however, 12 feet additional <br />beyond the sidewalk belongs to the City; the Ci~y has no regulations over driveway <br />slope or height of floor; Mrs. Diaz has been notified that the development is not <br />in conformance and that she will have to take out the construction which was placed <br />in the public way in error, or she can petition the City Council for the encroach- <br />ment. In answer to a question by Councilman Markel, the Manager stated that there <br />are nine parking spaces on the property, one additional over the required number. <br /> <br />STREET NAME The Clty Manager reported that the staff is <br /> in the process of making a survey of the <br /> 67 residences, 105 apartments, la businesses <br />and 2 churches on Center Street regarding Councilman Markel's suggestion of a name <br />change and that a sampling shows they are not in favor. <br /> <br />ADJ(X~MENT There being no further business to come <br /> before the City Council, the meeting was <br /> ad,our.ned at 10:20 P.M., on motion of <br />Councilman Herrin, seconded by Counc~:m-u Thurman and carried. <br /> <br />Doris M.
