ARTICLE VI <br /> <br />6.0 OVERTIME <br /> <br />6.1 <br /> <br />General Policy for Overtime Work. When it shall be determined to be in the public interest <br />for employees to perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, the City Manager, <br />the Department Head, or a duly authorized representative of the City Manager or the <br />Department Head, may require an employee to perform overtime work. <br /> <br />6.2 Definition. Overtime work is defined as: <br /> <br />6.3 <br /> <br />6.4 <br /> <br />That authorized or required time worked in excess of the normal workday, tour of <br />duty, or workweek schedule for the particular class and organizational unit of an <br />employee. A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 consecutive <br />hours - 7 consecutive 24-hour periods - as designated by the appointing authority. <br />An employee's work schedule within the workweek shall not be changed to avoid <br />payment of overtime; provided, however, nothing shall abridge management's right <br />to establish and change work schedules and assignments in accordance with the <br />rights of management contained in Article XX, infra. <br /> <br />Work on observed holidays or work on any regularly scheduled non-work day of <br />which there shall be two (2) per week, if work on any regularly scheduled non-work <br />day is worked at management's direction. <br /> <br />Computation of Forty (40) Hour Workweek. In computing the forty (40) hour workweek, <br />the following type of work hours shall be included in the computation: actual work time, <br />holiday leave, jury/witness leave, sick leave and bereavement leave. Any combination of <br />these work hours in excess of eight (8) hours per day or forty (40) hours per week shall <br />entitle the employee to overtime compensation. <br /> <br />However, paid time off for vacation leave, all unpaid leave, compensatory time off, Union <br />President's Leave and Union Business Leave shall not be credited towards the forty (40) <br />hour workweek, unless the employee is required to work by management. <br /> <br />Compensation for Overtime. <br /> <br />The preferable method by which overtime shall be compensated is by monetary <br />payment, at one and one-half (1 1/2) times the employee's regular rate of pay, subject <br />to the provisions of Subsection "C" below. <br /> <br />Should the Department Head determine that the best interests of the City will be <br />served thereby, he or his designee may permit an employee to be compensated for <br /> <br />26 <br /> <br /> <br />
