BOARD TASK FORCE REPORT <br /> <br />Budget and Program Task Force - Director Metzler reported that the group held a <br />retreat and looked at ways to generate additional revenue. He indicated that the <br />report from this retreat would be presented to the Board when finalized <br /> <br />Education Task Force - Director Haro noted that the Board is looking at strategies <br />in expanding the committee <br /> <br />Marketing Task Force - Director Bloom-Ramos reported that the task force met on <br />September 9, 2003 and is looking at the development of a newsletter and other <br />options to assist in promotion of SAEC activities. <br /> <br />Sustainability Task Force - Director Bloom-Ramos reported that Director Haynes <br />stepped down as Chair of this task force. She further noted that the committee was <br />working on a strategy to address the gaps identified in the Research and <br />Development report <br /> <br />STAFF REPORTS <br /> <br />Empowerment Zone Summer Youth Program - Maria Yanez, Economic <br />Development Aide presented the FEZ Summer Youth Employment and Training <br />Program Report presented by the Santa Ana WORK Center. She noted that the <br />report details the overall facts and successes of the program funded by the <br />SAEC in April, 2003, for the amount of $500,000. The program began on July 7, <br />2003 and ended August 22, 2003. <br /> <br />Quarterly Monitoring Reports - Cesar Cedeno, Economic Development <br />Specialist I reported that all funded programs must submit a ~uarterly monitoring <br />report to staff. These quarterly reports are due on the 15u' of July, October, <br />January and April respectively. The reports also include a narrative of the <br />program accomplishments and/or struggles to date, an implementation plan with <br />the percent complete for each milestone and number served, updates on <br />leveraging activity, and if applicable, pictures of the activity or equipment funded. <br />The July 15, 2003 report reflects nine active programs: one from the first year <br />funding, four from the third year funding and four from the fourth year funding. <br /> <br />Annual HUD Report for the City of Santa Ana Federal Empowerment Zone - <br />Melissa Alva, Economic Development Specialist I presented the 2003 U.S. <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Annual Report for the <br />Santa Ana Empowerment Corporation. The report covers the time period of July <br />1, 2002 through June 30, 2003. Specific highlights include the new SAEC <br />Business Plan, the progress of workforce and economic development programs, <br />the Daisy Wheel System and marketing of the federal tax credit program. <br /> <br />OC Register Empowerment Zone Article - Melissa Alva discussed an article <br />published in the Orange County Register on August 18, 2003 relative to the <br />Phase I results of the Research and Development Infrastructure.
