CENTENNIAL PAGEANT Mr. Thorkelson presented each <br /> Councilman with a commemorative <br /> envelope indicating the Mission Pony <br />Express Ride from Santa Ana to San Diego and displayed the packet that was <br />left with the dignitaries of each city en route and read aloud the formal <br />invitation included in the packet to attend our Centennial Pageant on <br />October 25. Mr. Thorkelson explained that the Centennial Committee is <br />keeping an extensive scrapbook so that the City will have a permanent <br />record of all ihe activities. <br /> <br />Janice Boer stated that without any warning to any of the citizens, streets <br />were blockaded between Broadway and Bristol and from 8th to 10th for a <br />staging area for the parade on October 18 and expressed her opinion that <br />the parade was badly mismanaged and misplanned. <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION At 2:27 P.M., the City Council <br /> adjourned to Executive Session to <br /> consider appointment to the Personnel <br />Board to replace William Wenke, who has resigned. The Council recon- <br />vened at 2:57 P.M., with the same Council members present. <br /> <br />SIGNAL INSTALLATION On motion of Councilman Herrin, <br /> seconded by Councilman Villa and <br /> unanimously carried, execution of <br />agreement with City of Fountain Valley for the installation of a traffic <br />signal at the intersection of Edinger Avenue and Newhope Street was <br />authorized and deletion from the 1969 - 70 budget of the signal scheduled <br />for construction at 17th and Lincoln and signal modifications was <br />approved. Mayor Edward Just, of Fountain Valley, was present and <br />extended best wishes to the City of Santa Ana upon the beginning of its <br />second hundred years. <br /> <br />PROJECT 3010 AND On motion of Councilman Brooks. <br />PROJECT 3014 seconded by Councilman Evans and <br />SEWERS unanimously carried, Council <br /> ordered filed report of bids re- <br />ceived for Project 3010, Sanitary Sewer in Bristol Street from Memory <br />Lane to 1350 feet north and Project 3014, Sanitary Sewer in Main Street <br />from Roe Drive to 500 feet north; awarded contract to the low bidder, <br />Scott Brothers Construction, Inc.; and rejected all other bids. <br /> <br />PROJECT 7008 On motion of Councilman Brooks, <br />MCFADDEN BRANCH LIBRARY seconded by Councilman Herrin <br /> and unanimously carried, all bids <br />were rejected on Project 7008, Construction of Branch Library on <br />McFadden Avenue between Fairview and Sullivan Streets and the Staff <br />was instructed to modify the plans and specifications to reduce the cost <br />of the project and re-advertise the project when the plans have been <br />revi se d. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />-356- October 20, 1969 <br /> <br /> <br />
