REQUEST FOR, <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />JANUARY 5, 2004 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION-ADJUSTMENT <br />TOBACCO FREE COI~4UNITIES <br />PROGRAM GRANT FUNDING <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />[] As Recommended <br />[] As Amended <br />[] Ordinance on Ist Reading <br />[] Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />[] Implementing Resolution <br />[] Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager and Chief of Police <br />to execute a grant award agreement with Orange County On Track. <br /> <br />2. accepting and appropriating the <br /> grant funds in the amount of <br /> <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment <br />Tobacco Free Communities Program <br />$30,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Santa Aha Police Department has been awarded funding for the Tobacco <br />Free Communities Program through the Orange County On Track Organization. <br />The Tobacco Free Communities Program is a collaborative effort with health <br />care professionals, city officials, law enforcement, schools, faith based <br />organizations, media, business, and parents working together to <br />significantly reduce tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco <br />smoke. <br /> <br />The Orange County On Track Organization has received a County of Orange <br />Health Care Agency grant funded by the National Tobacco Settlement to help <br />create a Tobacco-Free community in Santa Aha. The Police Department will <br />receive $30,000 from this grant funding to be used in the enforcement and <br />education efforts relating to the illegal sales of tobacco to minors. <br />Activities include creating posters; community clean-ups, education, and <br />training staff and community members about the dangers of tobacco while <br />encouraging smoke free activities. <br /> <br />Page5 20.B. <br /> <br /> <br />
