Contract Amendment and Contracts Award
for Cellular Phones, Accessories and
Airtime Service (Spec. No. 03-036)
January 5, 2004
Page 2

On April 21, 2003, the City Council awarded contracts based upon the
State of California contracts for cellular phones, accessories, and
airtime service to Nextel Communications and Verizon Wireless.
Recently, the State of California awarded new contracts, based upon a
competitive bid process, which will provide the City with current
cellular phone equipment, as well as substantial discounts from list
price.

The City establishes annual limits on contracts based upon past usage.
During the past contract period, usage with Nextel Communications has
increased due to equipment replacements and upgrades and an increase in
airtime services. The vendor has consistently provided discounted
pricing and quality customer service to the City. Therefore, staff
recommends amending the contract with Nextel Communications.

FISCAL IMPACT

Funds are available in the various departmental Communications accounts
(object code 6211).

APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS:

~'-R. loma--
~Executi~ Director
Finance and Management Services Agency

RRC/TO/03-036-A-R.2:li

22.D.
