EXHIBIT A <br />About the Program <br />Executive Summary <br />Taller San Jose through its vocational training center, Taller San Jose Tech, provides paid <br />hands -on job training to unemployed out -of- school youth (18 -28). Taller San Jose Tech <br />will recruit 100 youth over the next year to participate in job training for the building <br />trades. We anticipate that 50% of these youth will be eligible to participate in WIA as <br />older youth ages 18 -21. <br />Although Taller San Jose provides programs and services that include all 10 WIA <br />Elements /Services, Taller San Jose Tech will focus its efforts on WIA Elements /Services <br />3 -10 which focus more directly on job - training and employability. Youth who participate <br />in job- training at Taller San Jose Tech and need to complete their secondary education <br />will have access to the educational resources available at Taller San Jose. <br />Over the course of the next year, Taller San Jose Tech will achieve the following <br />outcomes: <br />• Recruit 100 young adults from the target group each year — 50% to be WIA <br />participants. <br />• Provide industry specific training for 70 student apprentices — 40 of whom <br />will be WIA participants. <br />• Facilitate the placement of 65% of trained apprentices into jobs above <br />minimum wage. <br />• 84% of trained apprentices will remain employed for a minimum of 6 months. <br />Successfully achieving these outcomes among a hard -to -serve target population requires <br />a creative approach. Taller San Jose offers that kind of vision. Taller San Jose Tech can <br />prepare unemployed youth with no previous work experience to successfully transition <br />into the workforce. It accomplishes this through a combination of intensive classroom <br />instruction, hands -on job training, and a "real world" work environment. Using a pre - <br />apprenticeship model, students learn while they work. Training focuses on the skills <br />employers require on- the -job. Taller San Jose Tech provides youth the skills needed to <br />work in the construction industry by creating a "real world" work environment. This <br />environment allows them to develop good work habits while providing a structured <br />environment in which to be successful. <br />
