clinical instruction. Students who complete this training are eligible for <br />certification by the State of California. <br />5. A program focused on developing young leaders — Personal Empowerment <br />Program (PEP) — invites students to participate in a 7 -week course addressing <br />personal leadership, teambuilding, networking, public speaking, goal setting, and <br />personal empowerment. Students receive $7.00 /hour to participate in the <br />program. <br />6. Monthly bus passes and childcare vouchers are available to students who maintain <br />an attendance rate of 90% and attend a minimum of three Life Skills workshops a <br />month. Attendance is tracked through our Social Services Coordinator. <br />7. All Taller San Jose students 18 -28 years of ages are assigned to an adult mentor <br />on staff. Taller San Jose is a highly relational program. Adult mentors assist <br />students with goal setting and work as an advocate for the student. Mentors meet <br />weekly with students and stay in communication with teachers about progress. <br />8. Through an extensive Life Skills program known to students as El Camino, Taller <br />San Jose offers education on topics such as parenting skills, physical abuse, drug <br />& alcohol abuse, financial matters, anger management, staying crime free, job <br />preparation, interviewing, resume writing, and many other issues. A staff <br />member with 30 years experience with the criminal justice system provides <br />support for students dealing with a criminal history and works as a contact <br />between local drug and alcohol resources. <br />Fiscal Capacity <br />Since it opened in 1995, Taller San Jose has demonstrated clarity of vision and credibility <br />in the community for dealing with hard -to -reach young adults. The program has been <br />funded by 27 different foundations and over 1,500 individual donors. <br />Accountability requirements and administrative measures have been developed to handle <br />reporting requirements and tracking systems for all income and expenses including grants <br />received by Taller San Jose for program purposes. Accounting software allows each <br />grant award to be assigned a cost center code which tracks income and expenses related <br />to each grant. Monthly reports are generated alerting staff to upcoming report deadlines. <br />In addition, each year Taller San Jose undergoes an independent audit of its fiscal <br />systems, inventory tracking, and funding management. <br />Sub - Contracting: <br />Taller San Jose is not an island. Located in the geographic center of Santa Ana, the <br />program interacts with numerous educational and social service organizations to <br />accomplish its goals. Taller San Jose views its role as a strong advocate for the unseen <br />and underserved out -of- school youth in Santa Ana. The program acts as a powerful <br />broker in the community — recruiting students who are least likely to return to education <br />or training and providing a support system for these young people, mentoring them into <br />productive adulthood. <br />Taller San Jose addresses the needs of out -of- school youth (18 -28) with the collaboration <br />of the following partners: <br />12 <br />
