The
NFPA standard recommends a limit of 15 years to frontline service
units, with a reserve status of five years. The standards are part of
the requirements for maintaining a recognized Class I Fire Department.
Due to age, one 1985 air/light unit meets the schedule for replacement.
The delivery time with American LaFrance of Los Angeles is nine months.
The air/light truck is a self-contained emergency vehicle, providing
the on-scene filling of the firefighters' breathing apparatus bottles,
and area floodlighting.

Santa Aha City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to make
purchases using contracts from any public agency utilizing a
competitive bid process. The Clark County, Nevada contract with
American LaFrance was awarded as a result of open, competitive bidding,
and meets the City's requirements.
