DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND <br />-SECURITY <br /> <br />..'\. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 1st Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Heering For <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Authorize the Police and Fire Departments to accept personal protective <br />equipment purchased by the Orange County Operational Area under the 2003 <br />U.S. Department of Homeland Security Homeland Defense grants. <br /> <br />eSCUSSION <br /> <br />.The United States Department of Homeland Defense (DHS) has awarded the <br />State of California, Office of Homeland Security, fiscal year 2003 <br />Homeland Defense funding to disperse to the various Operational Areas for <br />purchasing personal protective equipment for first responders. The Santa <br />Ana Police and Fire Departments are members of the Orange County <br />Operational Area. The Operational Area, through the County of Orange, <br />purchased the equipment and will transfer it to each Orange County Agency. <br /> <br />.The goal of the Orange County Operational Area is to outfit all Police and <br />.Fire First Responders with the equipment needed to protect the individuals <br />from weapons of mass destruction. The Police and Fire Departments will be <br />equipped with respirators, chemical suits and dosimeters under the grant. <br />The Operational Area has purchased these items.
