Curtis & Sons for firefighter protective <br />clothing based on the City of Carlsbad' scontract with L.N. Curtis & <br />Sons, in an amount not to exceed $40,000; and add an additional $10,000 <br />. on the annual blanket contract for fire safety and rescue equipment. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) <br />mandates minimum requirements for firefighter protective turnout <br />clothing. In compliance with the National Fire Protection Agency <br />(NFPA) requirements of five-year service life, the Fire Department has <br />established a replacement schedule for turnout clothing. With <br />approximately 200 firefighters and 60 reserve firefighters, the <br />replacement program is an ongoing process.. The recommended actions <br />will allow for another phase of turnout coat and trouser replacement. <br /> <br />On February 3, 2003, the City Council awarded a contract to L.N. Curtis <br />& Sons for the purchase of firefighter protective turnout clothing <br />based upon the City of Carlsbad contract. The contract has since <br />expired and updated specifications are being prepared for a new bid. <br />During the interim period, L. N. Curtis & Sons has agreed to provide <br />General Services Administration (GSA) pricing until a new contract is <br />established. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />22P-1 <br /> <br />,.... <br />
