SR2S is a federally funded program, in its fifth year,
which provides construction funds for projects to improve school
pedestrian safety, such as traffic signals and in-pavement lighted
crosswalks.

Staff is requesting authorization to submit eight projects for SR2S
funding for fiscal year 2004/2005 (Exhibit 1). Given the need for
these improvements, staff recommends the City Council adopt a
resolution supporting state funding of these projects and authorizing
the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency to submit the
designated projects for funding consideration under the Safe Routes to
School Program.

BNVJ:RONMEN'rAL IMPACT

Environmental reviews will be conducted for those projects that receive
funding and will be presented to the City Council when the construction
.contract(s) is awarded. These types of projects typically qualify for
Categorical Exemptions.

55A-1
